Pelvic Ring Fracture Rehabilitation
Overview:
Pelvic ring fractures can be complex and may demand extended bed rest or limited weight-bearing. Rehabilitation timelines vary widely based on fracture severity and surgical approach.
Phase I:
Immediate Post-Op (Weeks 0-4) Goals: Pain control, maintain upper body strength, and prevent deconditioning. Recommended Exercises: Breathing exercises, gentle arm and core exercises in bed, pelvic tilts if allowed.
Phase II:
Early Rehabilitation (Weeks 4-12) Goals: Initiate partial weight-bearing (if permitted), gentle pelvic stabilization exercises. Recommended Exercises: Supine bridges, hip abduction with minimal resistance, seated trunk rotations.
Phase III:
Advanced Rehabilitation (Weeks 12+) Goals: Improve stability, restore normal gait, and gradually increase load on the pelvis. Recommended Exercises: Standing hip extensions, modified core planks, progressive walking program.
